HOTL 4th Graders= JOY!

It's been about a month since I have given up my title as Miss RRV Outstanding Teen...and let me tell you, life has not slowed down one bit! School has been busier than ever with college and high school courses, and music studies in my schedule! And the Sound of Music performance is now a month away. Wow time flies! I am loving every minute of my life. And oh yes, even the crazy ones!

I didn't want to stop speaking about my platform, "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." The impact that smoking has had on loved ones in my life has given me the motivation to continue to fight against this ongoing issue. So I decided to speak with a group of joyful 4th graders at the Heart of the Lakes Elementary.

Part of my day is spent as an assitant at the elementary in Perham. It's been a unique experience helping and interacting with the children. Memories from my fourth grade life always seem to float back to me when I'm with them. I offered to speak to all of the 4th grade classes that I help out with. Last Friday I spent the a portion of the morning with Mrs. McEachran's class. I had Mrs. McEachran as a teacher and I was very pleased to spend a part of my time with her students. We disscused the alarming statistics of smoking together and they assured me that they DIDN'T want to smoke. :)

This Monday I will be continuing my little 4th grade tour at HOTL with Mrs. Klinnert's class. I can't wait to spend time with them!

“To Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine.” Last September when the lights were blocking my view from the audience, and my heart was pounding inside of my chest, I was announced as your first ever Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen. At that moment I could never have pictured, planned, or predicted what this past year has given me. My dreams and imagination went beyond what I ever thought possible as I took on a job that has changed me forever.

First and foremost I need to thank my Savior who is my source of strength, joy, hope, and the one who gives me a unique calling and purpose. You lay the plans you have for me each and every day. Thank you for giving me a year blessed with discovery. Mom, I have never seen more patience out of you than this past year. Your support is a huge part of my success. Thanks for always showing me in simple ways that you believe in me. Dad, thanks for your listening ear. Whenever I had any stress you were always there to help talk me through it. Terry, I know you sometimes don’t understand the pageant world, but thanks for pretending that you do and supporting me along the way. Bailey, sharing your 16th birthday with me at one of my appearances was so much to ask. Thanks for being willing to share your special day, and many of your days with me. Aubrey, thanks for being such a hilarious sister. Your humor always makes me laugh deep down, even though I may not like to always admit that. Gavin, thanks for being such a talkative brother and for always asking questions about what I was up to at my “pageants”. Mickey, you are such a skilled candy thrower. Thanks for always being willing to snap some pictures with me! To my extended family, I always feel your love and support whether you are across the United States or being there to cheer me on. Melissa, you put so much on your plate and balance it well. You went the extra mile for me this year. Thanks for your enthusiasm to help me be the best I could be. Shelley, you are the pro at helping me with fine line details of everything that I do. Thank you for your countless hours and behind the scenes work you did this past year. Amber, thank you for your encouragement, tips, and making sure all was well! Robin, I could not have asked for a more moving piece to take to MMOT. Your chorography translated so much within me to perform at my best. Northern Lights SADD, a huge thank you goes to this organization for seeing such significant potential in me and letting me join in their efforts of making a difference in the lives of teens. To all of the people behind the organization, you sacrifice so much of your time and energy. Thank you. Dave Howey, so much of what you do is behind scenes. Thank you for cutting my music for MMOT and for giving me the opportunity to share my message of teen smoking prevention across five radio stations in the Red River Valley. Kelli Beniek, your talent that shines in your photography is beyond explanation. I’m not only thankful for my photos, but I am more ecstatic about the relationship that I was blessed to begin with you. Jay, your service never goes unnoticed as I am with others. However, many do not know that you are the skilled lady that puts the time and effort into making my hair look stunning! Thank you for your hugs and encouragement along the way. Bethany, I could not have asked for a better, more beautiful, and spontaneous sister queen to share my year with. You have truly become my big sister that I have always wanted. I can’t wait to continue to watch you succeed and accomplish your goals and aspirations. You give so much of yourself to the people in the world around you. You continue to inspire me. My lovely friends (you know who you are) that I have made throughout this experience. I am so thankful for the relationships I have with all of you! I look forward to making more memories with you. To the Red River Valley, thank you for excepting me with open arms. I am so honored that I represented such a strong and amazing area of Minnesota this past year. To my successor, you have a year full of discovery ahead of you. May every experience and appearance bring joy to your journey. Your year will be more than you can ever ask or imagine.

I am so blessed for all that I have discovered, learned, and accomplished this past year. Tonight I will take the last step to completing my journey as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen as I place the crown on your new title holder. All of you have inspired me along my journey and I thank you with an overwhelmed heart for all you have given me.

Final Days as Miss RRV Outstanding Teen

It has now been a week since I have given up my title, but I wanted to give you a recap of my final days of Miss RRV Outstanding Teen. Life has definately not slowed down in any way! Life is good! ;)

Saturday was the BIG pageant day! It was exactly that not only for Bethany and I, but for all of the girls competing for the title of Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen and Miss Moorhead. We were up and at it early when the alarm rang at 6 AM! It was quite a time crunch to get ready, pack up Bethany's vehicle with our wardrobes, and get to Moorhead High by 8 AM!

The morning was spent getting to know all of the girls and vice versa. Practicing our production number "Dynamite" was so much fun. The contestants caught on to the proudction number soo quick. We then went through competition walks for all of the girls. That too came naturally and quickly for all of them. Before we knew it, we had to get some lunch. While the girls filled their tummies I went to practice "God bless American" with Kathryn Knutilla, Miss Minnesota. Since the pageant was on the 9th Anniversary of 9/11 we wanted to have a special presentation of rememberance. Bethany and I had a great time figuring out our harmonies. Kathryn was such a great help!

Around 1:30 the teens had their interviews. I had the priveledge of bringing all of them in to meet the judges. We had a spectacular judging panel that made it relaxed for all of the girls. With the interviews being six minutes each they were over before we knew it. After interviews, I was able to run through some of my talent presentataions. It felt great to be on the stage again!

At 3:30 interviews were finished and we all headed to have a great meal provided for us by Bennigans of Moorhead! The meal hit the spot. We all made sure to fill our tummies before the night ahead of us. We ate quickly to be sure and get back in time to get ready for competition.

The doors opened at 6. I got to welcome everyone along with Bethany, Kat (MMOT) and Kathryn (Miss MN.) It was great to recieve and give many hugs to fellow friends and family as they came to support me and the contestants! I had many of my friends that are going to college in Moorhead come as well as many of the girls I competed with at MMOT! It was so great to see everone!

The pageant itself is a complete blur for me! It went sooo fast. My farewell was a bit tough to get through. I wasn't prepared for the emotions I would feel as my recorded farewell played and I walked the stage. Reflecting on my year as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen was so incredible it brought many tears to my eyes. I really felt the love and support of everyone that was there! Thank you so much!

My final job as Miss RRV Outstanding Teen was to crown the 2010 title holder. With great honor I crowned Brianna Drevlo. I was so delighted to give her the experience I had this past year. She is a true outstanding teen. I can't wait to watch her compete for MMOT and cheer her on as she brings joy to the Red River Valley! Congratulations!

After the pageant I took some pictures and chatted with people I didn't see before the show! Then it came time to pack up my pageant wardrobe for the last time!...Even that was sad! I got back to the hotel around 10:00 and took a deep breath in, took off my heals,exhaled and smiled! I had done it. That night I spent time with fellow pageant friends eating pizza and reminissing about the evening. I went to bed quite late, but it was worth it!

The next day I had the great honor of performing at the Inspiring America Concert hosted by Kathryn Knutilla. There I sang the National Anthem and performed my dance from MMOT "Ave Maria." I was honored to be a part of such an inspiring afternoon. Many families involved with Children's Miracle Network where there to tell there stories! The North Dakota CMN Champion Alyssa Pratt was there! I met her at the Telethon. It was so great to see her again. Being a part of CMN has been such a blessing for me. Seeing children win their battles with cancer is incredible! I can't wait to see them continue to thrive and get healthy.

After the concert it came time to say goodbyes and get ready for my journey home. For the next couple of hours it hit me once again that my year was over. However I marveled at the thought of the people I had met, impact, and have changed my life! The night I gave away my title, the crown disappeared, but not the people or memories I made, and the things I have learned! I am thankful for it ALL!

Life has not slowed down in the slightest bit since last weekend. I just got through my second week of my senior year! This past Tuesday I was casted as the lead in The Sound of Music. I will be performing as Maria the weekend of Novemeber 19, 20, and 21! I hope to see all of you there. I will keep you posted!

I plan on keeping up with this blog! I am excited to continue my communication with you! This is not the end...it's only the beginning!

Miss Red River Valley OT 2010 is tomorrow!

I just arrived in Moorhead and I'm writing this blog from the great Courtyard Marriot Hotel. I just got all situated and have now kicked back to reflect on my year as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen with a box of chocolates from my amazing sister queen Bethany! It's definitely a bittersweet evening knowing that this will be the last night I fall asleep as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding. I know my dreams tonight will be illustrated with many of my memories that I have made this past year! I am so thankful for all of the people I have met and that are now a part of my life. Thank you all for your support along this journey of a lifetime!

The pageant will be at Moorhead High Auditorium at 7 o'clock. I hope to see all of you there! You will be not only get to see and hear my recap of my year, but learn who the next Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen will be. I can't wait to find out. I'm sure all of you are as anxious as I am! Bethany will also be sharing her experiences from her year and crowning the new Miss Moorhead. You can't miss this incredible evening! Tomorrow will also mark the 9th anniversary of 9/11. Lot's to celebrate and remember tomorrow. Please Join Us!

Potato Days Parade in Barnsville

Potato's were everywhere in Barnsville, Minnesota this past weekend! Bethany and I had a great time being apart of one of the many interesting happenings during Potato Days!...The HUGE Annual Parade.

Beth and I were very lucky to receive a courtesy vehicle from Ward Muscatell of Moorhead! We got to ride in a Red Ford F-150. We felt quite fancy! They have been really awesome supporters of the Miss Moorhead Program and we are so thankful for their willingness to help! Thanks so much to Ward Muscatell!

Luckily the evening was a perfect temperature! The only problem we had was the wind. Let me tell you wind and hair most of the time don't work together...And when you are trying to wave and be a "princess" it gets difficult! However, I don't think many of the little girls really noticed. ;)

The parade wait was the longest part, but once we got rolling it flew by as conversations took place and our waves became frantic as all of the children clapped and waved themselves. The smiling faces are always so precious!

After the parade we enjoyed the Dairy Queen! It was like Miracle Treat Day all over again! Yumm!! I met up with some family and family friends and enjoyed the Potato Days events..and don't forget the unique potato dumplings!

I can't get myself to count the days I have left as Miss Red River Valley OT! It's quite bittersweet! (That's become my favorite word lately!) I am really excited to start senior year and pick out that college that is out in the world! I have a lot to look forward. Hope to see you on the 11th! You won't want to miss out!

Congrats to our MMOT Katarina Akridge on a great representation at Miss America Outstanding Teen! I hope you had a life changing experience!

Bittersweet :)

Yesterday I recorded my farewell at the Lakes 99.5 Radio Station with Dave Howey. A huge thank you goes to the Dave for being so willing to help me out this year! I really appreciate your support and generousity.

I must say that it was quite bittersweet putting together my final words and memories from this past year together! I had such a difficult time getting my farewell under five minutes! I don't want to get into too much detail! You will have to wait until the night I give up my title! ;)I have sooo many people to thank and I am so blessed to have had all of you cheering along the side line for me this year! Just a quick reminder Miss Moorhead and Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen 2010 will be crowned at Moorhead High on Saturday, September 11th! The pageant starts at 7o'clock! Hope to see you there!

This week our Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen, Katarina Akridge is competeing for the title of Miss America Outstanding Teen in the sunny Orlando, FL. I hope she is having a very memorable time and enjoying herself! The final night of competition is this Saturday! I know she will make Minnesota proud!

There are only a few weeks left before I give the job as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen to a very lucky lady! I hope she is ready! I'm really looking forward to meeting all of the girls competiting for the title! This Saturday Bethany and I will be in one of our last parades as sister queens. These next few weeks are going to be very bittersweet. All good things, must come to an end. However, I am confident that as the end is drawing near as MRRVOT it's not the end of my journey!

Vergas Looney Days Parade

As my reign is starting to roll to the finish line I was really soaking in one of my last appearances today at the Vergas Looney Days Parade. The parade is one of the last big events during the Vergas Looney Days Celebration! It was so great to be back to the community I represented in 08'.

For a town of 311 people I was very excited to see the streets filled with people. The Parade Route was short, but totally filled with the streets of the entire community. I saw many familiar faces, including new ones! So many little girls were very excited to see not only me, but many of the other queens from around the area! It was so great to wave to lots and lots of people!

A huge thank you goes to Bob Sazama Trucking for once again allowing me to use their incredibly big truck for the parade. It was great!

As my time is winding down, I am once again remembering, what a year I have had. It would not be the same without all of you!!

There She Is!...

This evening has been a night filled with such inspiration and exciting performances! Tonight I was a guest performer at the 25th Annual Miss Vergas and the 12th Princess Altona Pageant. As many of you know I was Princess Altona in 2008 and was so ecstatic to be back to the Vergas Comnmunity to share my experiences this past year as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen.

There were nine contestants vying for the title of Priness Altona and four ladies running for the 25th Miss Vergas crown. The evening was filled with inspiration as 24women were thanked for their year of service to the Vergas Community. It was very exciting to witness the success of both of the programs.

I had the opportunity to share my talent from Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen with the audience and talked about my experiences and platform work. I was so excited to be back to a familiar place and feel the small warm-hearted communities love. It was so good to see and catch up with such wonderful people from the community.

Tonight Leah Wuebben was crowned the 12th Princess Altona. I am so proud of her! Leah and I are great friends and I am so thrilled to watch her this next year and all of the amazing things she will do. I am confident that she will amaze you! She was also the overall talent and interview winner! I love you Leah. Your first runner up was Maren Anderson. I am continually proud to see all of her talent. The overall Party Dress winner was Maggie Wothe, not only was she awarded for her party dress, but for her service to special olympics. She has grown so much these past few years and I can't wait to continue to see how she inspires those around her. Best wishes Maggie!

Haylee Dagget was crowned the 25th Miss Vergas! She shinned so much on stage tonight. Not only does she shine on stage, but does each and every day! She was the overall talent and evening gown winner! Congrats girl! I am so excited for the year you have ahead of you! Nancy Stenger was your first runner up. She was the overall interview winner and was awarded the Cheryl Glawe Community Service Award. I am very happy for you, girl! Way to go!

This evening I was once again reminded of all of the amazing people I have in my life. I went through just a huge rhelm of memories and found myself smiling the entire evening. Congrats to my Miss RRV Outstanding Teen commitee who have put so much time and energy into not only one program, but two! You are such inspiring people! What a success for all of you crowning the 25th Miss Vergas! Love you guys!

I am now only a month away from crowning the next Miss RRV Outstanding Teen and I can't believe that it's coming so fast!! Just a reminder the pageant will be held at Moorhead High at 7 o'clock on September 11th! Hope to see you there and enjoy these last few weeks of summer!

Princess Altona 2010

I wanted to invite all of you to a great event that will be taking place in Vergas, MN this Thursday during Looney Days! I'm really looking forward to the evening as I held the title of Princess Altona in 2008. I would love for you to be there to cheer for not only the Princess Altona contestants, but for the Miss Vergas Contestants as well! This year the 25th Miss Vergas will be crowned and the 12th Princess Altona.

I can't believe that it was just last year when I held the title and that now I will get to watch and cheer for the girls competing for the title. I can relate with all of them as I was in their place just a couple of year's back. I wish all of them the best of luck!

The Princess Altona Program was the start of my pageant journey and I am so thankful for the steps it allowed me to take and the growth that happened while I competed and held the title! I'm so excited for the next girl that will have that same experience!

The pageant will take place at the Vergas Community Center in Vergas, MN! Hope to see you there!

Miracle Treat Day!

Today I had a magnificent day at Miracle Treat Day in Moorhead, Minnesota. A day filled with spreading the message of Children's Miracle Network and the partnership with Dairy Queen that they had to raise money for such a great cause! Each blizzard sold around the Dairy Queen community donated a part of their proceeds to CMN.

Bethany and I arrived at the Moorhead Dairy Queen and got to work right away. We met the owners of the DQ who were so great to us and filled us in on what we would be up to for a couple of hours.

We got the chance to sell t-shirts, hand out coupons, and have the opportunity to talk about CMN with customers! I met such a great group of people today many of whom came to support CMN. Bethany and I even got a tour of the adorable Moorhead DQ which was established in 1949. Troy shared with us little details of treat making, to the traditions that he and his wife have kept in place the past 15 years they have owned their business. It was such a great way to spend the afternoon learning new things and meeting new people!

I always love meeting people who understand and have experienced the incredible blessings of the Children's Miracle Network. It's so great to look back at the kids and families I have met and continue to get to know them. At each and every appearance with CMN I am continually reminded of how fragile life is and how blessed we are to be healthy!

A very special thanks goes to Moorhead DQ who were so great to me and for supporting such a worthy cause!

Last and Final Day of PIU/ Welcome Home!

It was bittersweet as we ended our last day of the Pack It Up Anti-Tobacco Road Trip. I can't believe that it was less than 24 hours ago that I was driving back to the state of Minnesota!

Our day started very early to make sure that we made good time on the way home. It was a long stretch through South Dakota, and North Dakota. Road construction was at times an issue, but we worked through it well! Nothing as big as road construction seemed to really phase us at all by the end of the week. Our crew and cast were very tired so a lot of us rested and took some cat naps on the long hall home. The ride home is a bit of a blur for me! I was so excited to get home to see my family and friends. It has been quite a while since I had really gotten the opportunity to speak with many of them.

We stoped in Dickninson to have some lunch at Applebee's and share our last lunch as the PIU cast and crew. We had some great times just reflecting about the trip and having some great laughs! It was bittersweet as it really hit us that the trip was coming to an end. However, the one thing I was trying to remember the entire day yesterday was that the trip was ending, but that our impact would go beyond our last day. I am confident that even today that impact is still being felt around the midwest.

All of us arrived at the ND State Capitol around 5 o'clock. We took one last picture together and sad our goodbyes! Some tears were shed, but we were all comforted by hugs and the see ya laters! I had such a great week, with such a great group of people!

I then made the treck from Bismark to Perham with one of the crew members from the trip. I was very anxious to get home, but especially because the Miss Perham and Miss Heart of the Lakes pageant was taking place on my way home. I was very jittery and really wanted to be there! I rolled into Perham around 9:15 PM in perfect timing to hug the new Miss Perham, Brittany Bachumann and Miss HOTL Kalli Randal. Not only did I get to congratulate them, but I also got to see the new Miss Frazee, Emily Kallis, and catch up with Bethany and the rest of my friens who were at Perham High Auditorium! It was such a great reunion. I know that a week doesn't seem very long, but when your on a road trip time is a bit different. I was so excited to see everyone! It was a pefect way to come home.

The Pack It Up Anti-Tobacco Road Trip was such an incredible experience for myself and the entire group. I was so humbled to be a part of such a big project whose idea was born over a year ago! I never expected to have such an incredible time and feel as blessed as I did along the way. It was a challenge, a new experience, and very rewarding! I made new friends this week, met a ton of new people, and got to witness the stunning world around me made by my creator! I am so thankful for the trip and could not have asked for anything better! I took a lot of my passions this week and ran with them. I'm still burning with a desire to make a difference in the lives of others!

I have to give a huge congrats to my PIU friends! We did it guys. And of course to the new ladies that were crowned while I was away! I'm so excited to watch all of you thrive this year! I give you my best wishes! Thanks so much to all of you were there to welcome me home! I love you guys!

PIU Day 6: Summer Nights Festival in Rapid City, SD!

The sound of the alarm clock came very fast this morning in Nebraska. With our time zones changing it was tough for all of us to get rolling out of bed this morning with little hastle or groggy eyes. However, we all pushed through it together and got on the road by 9 AM.

We covered a ton of miles today and a majority of our morning was spent being in the vehicles. It was alright though. We really used our IPOD's to our advantage this morning. Dancing to the music not only helped us keep occupied, but also gave us some energy for the morning.

All of us pulled into a McDonald's in Alliance to grab some quick lunch things and take a rest break after our long morning of driving. We decided to take our food on the road to save us some time. I enjoyed a great meal of fruit and walnut salad and a great snack rap! Yeah, for fast food. ;)

We then drove, and drove, and drove, our goal to make it to Rapid City with extra time. Surprisingly we arrived a bit more early than what we planned with all of the detours we ended up taking from road construction. So we decided to shed some extra time off and we stopped at the Dinosaur Park in Rapid City, SD. There we were able see the gorgeous view of Rapid City. We snapped a couple of pictures and then it was time to hop back into the car to head to our awareness activity.

Our awareness activity was held at the Summer Nights Festival. Each week in the summer Rapid City holds a night of activities for the kids and their families in the cities. It's much like a street fair. There we set up a tent and shared our story of the week that we have been having. The families were so excited to talk with us. Our smoke-free pledges, prize wheel, side-walk chalk, and silly bands were a huge hit with everyone! Our camera's were rolling and snapping and we got some great footage of the night and interviews from parents and children!

After our awareness activity we went to visit Mount Rushmore. We were worried about the time and if we would get there to see it all lit up. We arrived with ten minutes to spare so we ran up all of the flights of stairs. Once we got to the top we witnessed a ceremony of lighting the monument and got to see our military men and women be honored on the stage right in front of the entire monument. Even though the visit was short it was a great reminder to always remember how blessed our country is. Thank you all men and service women!

On our way home we stopped at Little Cesar's to grab some pizzas. Some of us ate really quick and the festival so it was great to fell refreshed again before arriving in our hotel in Sturgis, SD!

Tomorrow is our last day that we will be on the road. After the trip we still have a ton of things left to do with our video! I'm so excited for you guys to see it and experience it!

PIU Day 5: Kansas is way too sweet!

This morning we woke up in Council Bluffs, Nebraska at our home-town feel Western Inn Hotel. Our goal was to be driving of the parking lot by 8:30 AM. We are proud to say that we accomplished that goal and got a great start on the highway this morning. We headed to Topeka, Kansas for our awareness activity. It still amazes all of us the time that we make each day and how fast we move to different locations and states. It’s pretty crazy, it’s all about a ton of team work.

We stopped at a gas station to re-fuel our vehicles near the border of Kansas and Missouri. It was pretty full and hard for us to squeeze in to get some gas. Eventually we were able to get a couple of gas pumps! Filling up with gas is no worry at all now and we are quite fast at it. We all were feeling a bit hungry so we pulled into a Burger King near the gas station to fill our tummies. Our cast and crew are loving the sandwiches, chips, and fruit lunch routine. We had to re-stock our cooler last night so we enjoyed some fresh new items today!

Our minds were quite focused on getting some great footage today! We had a significant goal of making sure that we will share all of our experiences with the public. And I mean all! The camera was rolling in the girls hotel room this morning while blow drying hair and applying make-up was taking place! We have even filmed our random experiences in the car and many of our groups quite interesting conversations. We even got some great footage of us dancing to "I gotta feeling" the make your move routine from our NL SADD conference.

We arrived to a very sweet community around 1 o'clock today, Topeka, Kansas. After getting some coins into our parking meter we made our way into the beautiful Curtis State Office Building (it was air conditioned!!). We were very excited to see some familiar and new faces from Kansas SADD. We had some very great SADD people that greeted us right away and lead us to where we needed to be.

As soon as we entered our conference room that was within the office building we spotted a camera man/news reporter. He was very enthused to speak with the cast and crew. We quickly moved into interviews with the cast and our Northern Lights SADD Student of the Year, Beth Ryan had a personal interview with the camera. We are very pumped about the news coverage we received in Kansas today!

Several tobacco prevention people visited us and we had a great hour discussion about several different issues, ideas, and thoughts about the use of tobacco among people in Kansas and in North Dakota. All of us were anxious to explain our trip to them and they were very interested in what our goal was with the Pack It Up trip. We interviewed a few of the people from the prevention office and we can't wait for you to see them on our documentation video.

There were about 10 students that we had the privelege of meeting from Kansas SADD. They were so great and it was quite a thrill to meet students from another state who are on the same page and mission that we are. They were all so friendly and exciting to talk to.

Kansas was so great to us. They surprised us with a lot of gifts which included Kansas SADD T-shirts, backpacks, and water bottles. The PIU crew and cast along with our Kansas friends made our way to the state capitol to get a group photo.It was sad for us to say goodbye to them, but we are very thankful for the great visit we had with them! Thanks Kansas for being way to sweet to all of us!

After our awareness stop we enjoyed supper at Buffalo Wild Wings, and a ice cream from Cold Stone! yummy, yummy! I'm loving the food on this trip. I have ate at a lot of places that I haven't this week! It's been great!

Then it was a 5 hour drive to our hotel, however we are in great hotel tonight in Nebraska and are ready to greet our day and activities in South Dakota tomorrow! Stay tuned!

PIU Day 4: Des Monies, ending in Nebraska!

This morning the crew and I awoke in a suburb outside of Chicago in our hotel. All of us hometown North Dakotan's and the one Minnesotan (me!)were ready to move out of the city. In all honesty it wouldn't have bothered me to stay at all! However, deep down I do love home. :)

We were off around 9 and drove, until we reached an IHOP. Our hotel this morning did not have a continental breakfast so we decided to have a brunch today which would also helped our budget! I enjoyed a great meal of chocolate chip pancakes. It was fun to enjoy pancakes from IHOP. Sadly I have never enjoyed a meal from there, but I made up for it today. It was great being in IHOP again. I haven't been in there since National Pancake Day this past winter.

We then got back in the car and made our long hall to Des Monies, Iowa. I decided to take a nap after our meal at IHOP since our sleeping schedules are really off with just traveling in general. I woke up at a rest stop and was really, really warm. I asked the driver to turn the air conditioner and he told me it wasn't working. It was about 95 in Des Monies and I decided to wear jeans! It was a bit warm!

We arrived in Des Monies about 4 o'clock. Today our main focus was to get some great footage for our educational video that we will be creating after the trip. The park that we visited today was so interesting with all of it's different sculptures and unique architecture. It was very cool. We were able to get some great shots and had a fun time while doing it.

We decided to head to the zoo in Des Monies. Sadly the zoo closed at 5 and we were 15 minutes late. We were all a bit bummed, but we decided that getting supper and heading to the hotel earlier would be a great plan! So we headed to Quizno's to have some sandwiches. Supper was great and it was amazing to have a full tummies and spend some time in air conditioning!

Heading to the hotel early sounded like a great plan for all of us, so we did just that! After another hour drive we arrived at the Western Hotel in Council Bluffs, IA. Right when we arrived we unpacked our bags and relaxed in the hotel. Ice Cream was an urgent request after seeing Dairy Queen as we arrived at our hotel so after settling we all enjoyed an ice cream to end our day on a high note!

This trip has been so incredible and I'm very thankful for the people that I have been with on this entire journey. Not only have I been spending time with an interesting, crazy, and hilarious group, but we have really connected this week. It will be sad to leave each other after the trip is completed.

The road trip is now half way through and we are very excited about our progress and success! Tomorrow all of us are off to Topeka, Kansas! It will be a great day!

PIU Day 3: Chicago AT&T Plaza in Millennium Park

Today I was very excited to travel to Chicago, IL. I have only visited to the city a few times and I was always fond of it. After being in NYC my love for the city has grown even more. My visit to Chicago with PIU was my first visit to a large city since my choir trip to Carnegie Hall.

Wisconsin Dells was quite beautiful and it was a bummer to leave this morning, however the windy city of Chicago was awaiting us! After leaving the hotel we decided to make a stop for coffee at Starbucks. We were greeted with the smell of espresso, however the line that went out the door made us change our mind. We made a stop at the Walgreens to grab some quick snacks, and breakfast items.

Back to the car we went to travel to Chicago. Our drives seem to go a bit faster now since that we are used to being in a vehicle for quite some time. Let me tell you! We are now professionals as car passengers!

We made a stop today at a gas station to have some sandwiches. Our picnic table was great to have instead of sitting in the back of the van! We gave our best effort to keep our time short there. After filling our tummies we all packed up into the vehicles.

We enjoyed some time in the car and van for about two hours before we arrived in downtown Chicago. Let's just say driving in Chicago is quite unique and fast-paced. I think Cory was kind of nervous, but he did so great! We made our way to our parking garage and then it was off into the city!

We began our time in Chicago at 3 o'clock at the AT&T Plaza in Millennium Park. "The Bean" is at the plaza so we began our time running up to take some great photos reaching into the bean. I was so ecstatic to see the bean. I have always loved looking at pictures of it and the last time I was in Chicago I didn't take to oppurtunity to see it. On the way to Chicago I found out that a ton of people from LifeRide were coming to visit all of us! After we turned around from pictures I heard someone say my name. I ran with excitement to the group and hugged everyone there! It was a reunion for Jess and I especially, and it was great for the group to meet the fabulous Chicago LifeRide family. All of us played frisbee in Millennium Park and took a ton of pictures!

After interviewing and chatting with our Chicago friends we were given a tour by our favorite LifeRide staffer Babs. She knows the city very well and she led the group to Lake Michigan. We enjoyed the view for some time and then decided that Chicago style pizza was much needed, along with some water! Our Chicago style pizza as sooo fabulous!

Sadly we had to say goodbye to our Chicago friends. I was so thankful that they came to see us! I didn't realize how much I missed them! After giving some hugs and saying our see ya later's we decided to check out the Hancock Tower. We decided to take a cab to the tower. After making the treck up to the 95th floor we limited our time after we noticed that we were dressed a bit casual!

Then we made our way to our hotel! We were all ecstatic to get some rest in!

Today we met some very interesting people. We met a little girl today who loved our frisbee's. We gave her one and we were so excited to make her day. Her Mom was so appreciative. They were both great. We also talked to some men in the Hancock tower who congratulated us on our efforts and gave us very special advice. We also received applause as we walked in the streets today! Chicago is such a friendly city!

We are excited for our journey to Des Monies, Iowa tomorrow. It looks like we will have a full day of driving! Remember we are the pro's!

PIU Day 2: St. Paul, Eau Claire, and Wisconsin Dells

This morning we woke up in Fargo and today we are ending our day of travel in the stunningly beautiful Wisconsin Dells.

I awoke to the phone calling our hotel room to let us know that we needed to get up for the day! Getting up to answer the phone seemed to come way to early for the entire cast and crew! After getting a second wake up call in the girl's room telling us to wake up 103 (aka the guys room) we were all up preparing for the day. We enjoyed waffles, bagels, and cereal at the continental breakfast at Red River Lodge!

By nine o'clock it was time to "Pack It Up" and prepare the vehicles for the day.I think we have now rearranged our vehicles more times than we can count on two hands. It's quite a tight squeeze, but we make it work. We drove, drove, and drove some more and finally were relieved of cramped muscles as we stoped at a Holiday Gas Station to have some lunch out of our handy cooler! It really helps out with our budget. However, I think we will all be ready for some home cooked meals by the end of the week! Mom's out there! I hope you guys are preparing for the return!

The wheels on the van and car went round and round as we continued our travel from Fargo to St. Paul. After hours of driving we arrived at the stunning Minnesota Capitol Building. It was so gorgeous. Many of us made quick runs into the building and captured pictures along the way. The building was massive and so incredible.

We set up our little portable booth in front of the capitol building. We all felt pretty cool being able to stand in front of it promoting a worthy cause. The people that were coming in and out of the building were amazing! All of them were so interested in our trip and what we are doing on the PIU Road Trip. We had more visitors than expected. Being a Sunday evening we weren't quite sure about the response we were going to receive. After spending about two and half hours we all returned to our cars and once again entertained ourselves for the long trip ahead.

Our stop in Eau Claire was much needed after spending a couple of hours in the car. Red Robin was our restaurant of choice for the evening. Many people on the cast and crew had never been there before so it was a great experience for all of us! Our waitress was great! She was very helpful and made sure we were well fed.

Then it was back, (can you guess it!?) into the vehicles again! By the end of the week I know that we will all be pro's at keeping ourselves entertained in the car!

After several hours of driving we finally arrived to our hotel, Econo Lodge, in Wisconsin Dells. After much debate we decided to stay put in the hotel tonight! We are feeling the day of travel.

Very successful and encouraging day!

We are anxiously awaiting our big visit to Chicago tomorrow! I love the city and especially Chicago and so I am ecstatic to visit! Be sure to come and see us if you are in the area!

Day 1 PIU: Minot and Fargo ND

Today was the day that the Pack It Up Anti-Tobacco Road trip officially started. We were up quite early, 5 AM to be exact, and enjoyed breakfast at the Rott's home.

We had to leave at 7 AM to make sure that we would be on time for the North Dakota State Fair Parade Line Up. After traveling for a few hours in a bit of fog we made it safely to Minot, North Dakota with a few minutes to spare. After making a quick run into Wal-Mart for window pant, poster board, pens, and other needed items we were ready for the day ahead of us.

We met up with SADD friends and Northern Lights Advisory Board (NLAB) members that came to help us out at the parade. We hung out for about two hours waiting for the parade to start rolling. We stayed occupied decorating our van and car and chatting with fellow SADD friends. Since we were number 195 we had to wait, but it was well worth it! Thanks so much everyone for having the parade be a huge success.

Then it was getting into the vehicles. We had a four hour drive to Fargo which was our next stop on our trip. After many of us rejuvenated from a quick nap on the road we were very happy to be welcomed into Fargo, ND.

Our second awareness stop was at Island Park in Fargo. We stayed there for a few hours getting shots for the video and of course visiting with people in the park. It was a very encouraging night with a great response from several in the park! Thank you. We also got to visit one of our major sponosors, Sanford Health. It was great to finally meet them and thank them for their generous support of the trip.

We enjoyed a great meal at Olive Garden and are excited for the day ahead of us tomorrow. We will be stopping at the Capitol Grounds in Minneapolis, MN and Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Day 0. Preparation and Relaxation of PIU

Day O. Preparation and meeting the crew and cast was our main goal today. Today I met up in Fargo with one of the crew members. After meeting up with him it was a afternoon filled with driving, driving, and more driving. It was great introduction to the week ahead which is full of driving. We had to make some quick stops to pick up the finished products. Our frisbees, t-shirts, business cards, mega-phones, banners, and video equipment.

We ended our afternoon of driving at Rachael Rott's home. She serves on the Northern Lights Advisory Board with me. She welcomed six of us from the cast and crew into her home and we were greeted with open arms. After visiting for some time we enjoyed a fabulous meal made by Rachael's Mom. Having a home cooked meal was great! It will really set us up for the week.

To entertain us Rachael decided to show us some of her favorite places surrounding her cute farm house. She brought us to "The Cuts" a railroad path way cut through limestone. It was a very stunning sight! It was so beautiful. She then brought us to "The Bridge" a place where we got to watch trains pass right underneath us. We had a great night full of relaxation for the week ahead.

After returning from our adventures outside of Rachael's home we enjoyed ice cream, cake, and raspberries.

I am very excited for the week ahead of us!

Anxiously Awaiting the Pack It Up Trip

Time is just flying by! I can't believe that the end of July is here! It kind of makes me sad, but so many amazing things have been happening this summer!

On Friday I will be leaving for the Pack It Up Anti-Tobacco Road Trip with Northern Lights SADD. I am very excited and I know that the rest of the crew that will be on the trip feels the same way! We have been working very hard so that we can spread the message that this trip is all about!

I gave you a summary about the trip in my Exciting, exciting, NEWS! blog story. If you are not familiar with the trip feel free to check out that story. Our main goal of the trip is to help others understand how big of the problem smoking among teens is. We took the cost of how much a smoker spends each year on cigarettes if they smoke a pack a day and created an anti-smoking road trip out of the cost! I'm so excited!

We will be traveling to many different states and making nine stops over the course of a week to do prevention activities. I hope to see familiar faces! Chicago people! Water Carnival Parade and Sista's Sweet 16th!

The day after returning from the LifeRide Leadership Camp I was in the Water Carnival Parade in Detriot Lakes, MN. Each year the Detroit Lakes Area has their annual Water Carnival Parade Celebration. Last year I got to ride in the parade and I was very excited to do it again. The parade has quite a long route that was full of faces the entire way!

Bethany met up with us for the parade and I was so excited to share the experience with her! We had a blast the entire time. We were able to catch up about life in general. I love sharing all of my stories with her. We both talked about how fast our year has gone by, and how amazing sharing the journey with one another has been.

The day of the parade was quite special as it was my sister Bailey's Sweet 16th! She road along with me in the parade throwing the candy while Bethany and I waved. I'm so thankful that I have an amazing sister who was wiling to share her big day with me at one of my appearances! I couldn't ask for more!

Thanks to my brother Mick for being such a skilled candy thrower, Bailey for sharing your day, and to my Mommy who drove the truck. Also a big thanks goes to my sponsor Bob Sazama Trucking for their support and letting us use their truck for the parade!

LifeRide Leadership Camp

I recently got back from a leadership camp in Chicago, Illinois entitled LifeRide. The week was filled with many learning experiences, team building activities, and the heat of Chicago. The camp took place in the outskirts of Chicago at Camp Algonquin. I had a wonderful experience meeting a ton of leaders from Chicago, North Dakota, and Oklahoma. I was presented with the opportunity to attend with the Nothern Lights Advisory Board of Northern Lights SADD that I am a part of. I couldn't wait to attend the camp!

The week started off in quite a unique way. After the nine hour bus drive we had a wonderful evening full of meeting new people and getting to know each other activities. I was excited to head off to bed that night to get rest built up for the week. However, my sleep was broken along with the rest of the young ladies as we were awakened by the fire alarm. I was so surprised when I found myself standing outside the building. I had never experience anything like it before. After watching the fire men inspect the building for an hour we were able to head off to bed again in a different location. I slept very well! With the week starting off like it did I knew I was in for a ton of wonderful surprises!

Each day was packed with activities, and we were on a tight schedule. We really wanted to get in as much as we could in the five days that we were there. On Wednesday we had the famous LifeRide Olympics filled with the bean bag toss, media trivia, basketball, soccer, and softball. This was a great activity to bond with our individual teams and get to know one another better. Thursday was filled with the team course at Camp Algonquin. A great day of team building. That night I was reminded of all the amazing people in my life as our speaker shared how important relationships are. It was quite a tear jerker, but a great night for all of the campers. Friday I attended six different workshops were I was able to reconnect with memories, write a mission statement for my life, and set goals for myself. That night I performed with my group a role play that dealt with gangs. Each and every group was able to perform their role play for the entire group. We had a night full of sharing and encouraging!

Before I could believe it I had to leave on Saturday. The week went quite fast considering the 100 degree weather we all endured with no air conditioning! That was what made the experience so unique.

I am so thankful for all of the people that I met at LifeRide. LifeRide has a unique mission to stay in contact with their campers after the week is over. I know that I have a great LifeRide family to turn to. I have met incredible people this past week who want to do incredible things! I can't wait to see what we do!

In High Spirits! Miss Wadena Crowned!

As some of you may have heard Wadena, MN was hit with an F-4 Tornado on June 17th which happened to be the week of Miss Minnesota.

As I attended the 27th Annual Miss Wadena Pageant tonight I was inspired by the spirit of the community of Wadena. In midst of complete tragedy, they have bonded and become a stronger community than ever before. The pageant started with a slideshow of all the images that have been collected since the disaster. After it was finished the crowd erupted with applause.

The night was filled with fun. I was so impressed with the talent that there is in Wadena. The ladies did such a great job! From singers, to a hoop dancer, to a piano player there was not a dull moment. After intermission I introduced myself and invited everyone to Miss Moorhead and Miss RRV Outstanding Teen. If you were unaware the pageant will take place September 11, at Moorhead High! Hope to see you there. We had to stall a bit during the second half which allowed plenty of time for funny jokes, and the stage hands coming out to dance for us! Quite a few laughs!

Congrats to Miss Wadena Hanna Larson and her court! You ladies did a wonderful job. A huge round of applause for your community for bouncing back in midst of disater! Hanna, you have such an amazing community to represent. I give you my best wishes!

To the community of Wadena. I was so excited to see your spirits high! It was such an inspiring thing to see. My prayers are with you. May you continue to keep that optomistic attitude through all your hard work in cleaning up. Congrats on not giving up with the fair. I can't wait to see how strong your community will continue to be!

Celebrating MORE Birthdays and the 75th Miss Northwest

Summertime for me is known for attending the many pageants and having the thrill of watching many young ladies across the state of MN be crowned with a local title. However, my entire summer is spent with family, friends, the lake, and making yummy coffee at the Wild Goose!

I have enjoyed these first 5 weeks of summer and I WISH it would slow down! I'm anxiously awaiting my senior year, but I can wait a bit longer! Last night I had a fabulous summer evening spent promoting my platform and cheering for my favorite contestants at Miss Northwest.

Before heading to Detroit Lakes, MN to watch Miss Northwest I decided to make an important stop at the East Ottertail Relay For Life in my hometown. I have been on a team before and I am not unfamiliar to the special event. Unfortunately cancer has touched and taken many of our loved ones lives. With my Gpa Ed having lung cancer for over a year now the issue hits home. Sadly his cancer, comes from smoking. However his struggle keeps me motivated! I was able to stay for about an hour. I spoke to several children, cancer survivors, and advocacy helpers. It's so humbling meeting other people who have the same passion as I do. I am so thankful for them. As I spoke with the advocacy advisor she was wearing a tag saying "The tobacco companies have not given up, and neither will we!" I am not giving up on this fight! It was so refreshing speaking with her. I also got to talk to a couple of girls who "really didn't like smoking." They informed me they weren't going to smoke. This years theme was celebrating more birthdays! I hope you will be!

Then I was off to Detroit Lakes for Miss Northwest. I was able to visit with a few girls from MMOT and the Miss MN program. Hugs and Chats were what the night was all about! I had a blast watching the pageant. This year the 75th Miss Northwest was crowned. Congrats to Melissa Paack who is the new Miss Northwest. Also congrats to my MMOT girl Emma Hilgart who was the interview and onstage question winner! All of you did a such a fabulous job! Lexy, you had a great year. I hope you are proud. Thanks all of you ladies (you know who you are) for the great catching up we fit in!

Exciting, exciting, NEWS!

My calendar has been filled with many exciting dates in July! I am so excited to share the news with you about my opportunities and experiences that I will be having the next three weeks!

This Tuesday I will be traveling to Chicago with a few Northern Lights Advisory Board Members from Northern Lights SADD. I will be attending a leadership camp there entitled LifeRide. LifeRide was established by national youth speker Eddie Slowikowsi. I had the joy of hearing Eddie speak at the Northern Lights SADD Conference this past March. I will be in Chicago at Camp Algonquin for one week learning and discovering even more of my leaderships skills and potential. I am ecstatic for the great week ahead of me.

After I get back from Chicago I will be resting for just a few days and then I will be heading on a week long journey with Northern Lights SADD as we travel to nine different states. Our journey is all about the message that I have been trying to reach teens with all year. Anti-Tobacco and Prevention. I was asked to come along on this trip just a few short weeks ago and have been busy along with eight others getting every detail in place.

The whole goal of the Pack It Up Road Trip is to help others understand how much money tobacco users spend on the drug and how their money can be used differently by preventing the use of tobacco among teens and adults. The entire trip will be documented through video and the media. After we get back we will start working on this video that will one day be in your hands.

Now seeking contestants for MRRVOT 2010!

I can't believe that I only have about two and a half months until I will place a crown on a very special girl! My year as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen has been so incredible. September 11, 2010 will be a bittersweet day as I complete my year and as a young lady will begin her amazing jouney! I am so excited for her!

The Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen Organization is now seeking young ladies between the ages of 13-16 years of age. You need to be a legal resident of Minnesota and live with the 15 counties of the Red River Valley which include Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Pennington, Red Lake, Polk, Norman, Mahnomen, Clay, Becker, Wilkin, Otter Tail, Traverse, Grant, and Douglas.

I would like to encourage you as a parent of a competitor or a contestant that this will be an experience that your daughter or you will never forget. If you have never been involved in a pageant I think you should give it a try! I promise that you will not forget it.

Pageants and Parades..It's that time of year again!

It's that time of year again!...Parades and Pageants! One of my highlights of my summer is getting to watch as all of our local royalty be crowned!

This past weekend I was in the Turtle Fest Parade in my hometown! Last year I rode in the parade, however, it was not very pleaseant as the weather was not in it's parade mood! This year we were blessed with a beautiful evening, and no rain or hail! I enjoyed waving to many of my incredible community members, friends, and family! I had the opportunity of riding in a Mustang convertible thanks to Jerry and Char Pyles! Thanks so much to all of you for your smiles and waves in return at the parade!

I also traveled to Brainerd, MN for the Brainerd Lakes Pageant! I love watching the girls compete and welcome new sisters into the Miss MN Organization. Congrats to Mary Peterson who was named Miss Brainerd Lakes 2010! I hope you have a fabulous year!

After the pageant I was able to reconnect with all of the girls from MMOT and Miss MN! It was so great to catch up with them. After being with them for a week I was missing all of them. Friendships gained within the MAO is the best part! Thanks girls for the hugs and the amazing time I had catching up with all of you. See you soon!

After my pageant was over I had the joy of attending all of the nights of the Miss Minnesota competition! All I can say is that we have some very incredible women in the state of Minnesota. We should be proud! It was a joy to watch all of them compete for the title.

I had such a blast cheering on my amazing sister queen Bethany Beniek! She did such an incredible job and was radiant as she stood on the Miss MN. I am so proud of her and the example she sets for me. I know many of the girls that competed for the title. It was such a joy to watch all of them at their best! They all looked stunning and performed so well!

Congratulations to Lexy Okeson who was the overall swimsuit winner,and Siri Freech who was the talent winner! You both deserved it! Big cheers for the dancers. Congrats to Tiffany Peterson who won the Spirit Award! If I were to name every award it would take up way to much room. ;) Congrats once again to all!

While I was at Miss Minnesota I had the privledge to watch Kathryn Knuittla be crowned our new Miss Minnesota. Kathryn and I share a unique sisterhood as we both have held the title of Princess Altona. She represented the Vergas Community in 2000 and I followed in her footsteps in 2008. I hope to some day share another sisterhood with her. She is such a talented young woman. I send big cheers her way as she competes for Miss Amerca! God bless you Kathryn!

It's just the beginning...

Last night I competed for the title of Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen. My adventure started Tuesday. It has been a couple of busy days, but I wanted to give all of you an update.

Tuesday was a day filled with great welcoming! I arrived at Anoka Ramsey Community College at 8 o'clock for contestant check in. I was greeted by many of the girls and directors. I recieved a bag full of goodies! Our day started right away with an introduction from the ARCC Staff along with a tour of the college.

After the tour we all joined back stage for a quick lunch before we had our photo shoot in our Rodney Alfred designer gowns. I ate fast so that I could rush into my dress fitting and makeup! I got to wear such a fun and different dress! I fell in love with it the minute that I tried it on! It fit so perfectly. I then got some make-up touch ups from the designer of the gown, Rodney! He is fabulous! Then it was time for the photo shoot! I was paraded out on stage where the shoot took place and enjoyed a few moments of fame. Before I knew it, I was done. After the shoot I got to relax and chat with a lot of the girls! It was so great getting to know all of them better. I also got to take a few snap shots with them in our gowns! We also took the group shot! It was such a blast!

Tuesday night all of us took a limo to McCormick and Schmick's! We had such a fun time on the way there. We talked about all kinds of things to random facts and our platforms. The ride was about 20-25 minutes. We arrived in downtown Minneapolis for a lovely dinner that was donated by McCormick and Schmick's. I enjoyed an amazing chicken and potateo dinner! It was so great! I was very full when I was finished.

After our amazing meal we all got on our limo and headed back to the hotel for some quick, but major rehearsal time! Our wonderful producer Megan helped us out with all of our production. She was so great to work with! I am proud to say that all of the contestants learned the entire production in 2 hours! We had such a fun time!

Tuesday was a great! I slept very well that night!

Wednesday was the BIG day that I had waited and prepared for. The day started early at 8 o'clock with bringing my entire competition wardrobe backstage and of course more rehearsals. Our morning consisted of learning all of our walks and more practice of proudction number! We caught on no problem!

After our morning practice time we enjoyed a little bit of lunch. Before I knew it I had to prepare for interview. I did my hair and make-up quite fast! At 1:30 contestants one through six were brought in to meet the judges. We had a great panel! My interview went very well and I felt good about after I had left the room. It was a great way to begin competition! After my interview was complete I got to run through my talent onstage and chat with my Mom and Melissa.

The afternoon seemed to take a while to pass. The anticipation for the pageant to begin made it hard to wait until showtime! 7 o'clock came faster than we had all planned! I felt the nerves as all of us walked out for production number! It was such a thrill!

Every phase of competition went very well with no stumbles or wardrobe worries! It was quite a blur and went super fast! As I stood waiting for the last two girls to be called as 1st runner up and MMOT my heart was beating sooo fast! I was awarded with 1st runner up! A close competition. I made my way to Kate for a picture. All of my hard work paid off! MMOT was announced as Kat Akridge! Congrats to you girl! She is so beautiful and talented!

After the crowning individual categories were announced. I won the personal interview. I was very excited!

This has been quite a journey and process and I am proud to say that it was worth the hard work and dedication! I know that MMOT is only a peice of my entire journey in the pageant world. I am so thankful for my expereinces and the friendships that I have made along the way! I am confident that this is only the beginning for me!

Packing, packing, and more packing seems to be the one thing that I have been up to lately. Tomorrow afternoon I will be heading to Coon Rapids for the Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen experience. Today has been a day full of packing (did I forget to mention that?) relaxing, and preparing for the journey that is ahead of me. I can hardly wait for it to begin.

Those are just my first two days! After the Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen pageant I will be attending the pre-limenary competitions for Miss Minnesota on Thrusday and Friday. Saturday is the the final night of Miss MN. I will be rooting for my sister queen Bethany! I am sooo excited to watch her compete!

I have a busy week ahead of me and I know that I have said this a million times, but I am so excited! I can't come up with a better word!

I am confident that whatever the outcome is with MMOT that I will be proud of how far I have come this past year. I will be starting a new journey on Wednesday. It will be the start of something new as Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen 2010 or as Paige Meyer. I just want to once again thank all of you that have been cheering me on in all of my activites and accomplishements this entire year. All of you have helped me become the person that I am.

I can't wait to be reunited with all of you after the pageant! It will be so great! I will be listening for your continued cheers in the audience. I hope to make all of you proud!

One Week Away!

Last night I had a wonderful send-off party in Moorhead at the Eventide Assisted Living. My sister queen Bethany and I shared our state wardrobe and pieces of our talent. It was a fun filled evening full of excitement!

I just wanted to give all of you a quick note! Thanks so much to all who made it to Moorhead for the send-off party! It was so great getting to chat with all of you! Thank you so much for all of your support and encouragement these past months that I have been preparing for MMOT. I'm so thankful that I have incredible people by my side.

I'm so excited for the competition and I can't believe that it is right around the corner. In one week we will know who the new Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen is! I'm so excited!

Children's Miracle Network Telethon

Saturday evening I attended the CMN Telethon in Fargo, ND. Each year a telethon is held sharing the stories of families and children who expereinced the benefits of Children's Miracle Network first hand.

This year I had the pleasure of helping out with the telethon. I spoke with many families and met some incredible people. I had so many highlights during the evening. I spoke with a family who had four children. They were so welcoming to what I have been up to this year. I asked them about their "story" and they told me that three of the kids had been in the hospital. All of their children are happy and thriving now. They were so thankful for the great hospital care that their children had recieved. I also met twins Laela and Amelia who were born with a hormone disorder. They were the cutest! So adorable and precious!

I finally had the oppurtunity to meet our local CMN Champion. Her name is Alyssa Pratt. She is a sophomore now and was diagnosed with lukemia. I have heard so much about her and have wanted to meet her for quite some time. She was such a sweet girl. I talked with her and her family for a good 20 minutes! They were so fun! Alyssa is now in remission and will be keeping up with chemotherapy treatments for the next year and a half to keep the cancer away! It was a pleasure to finally meet her. She is now in Washington DC with other local CMN Champions. I'm sure she is having a blast!

I was also on the news with Miss Fargo, Stephanie Tollefson presenting a check for $4,000 to CMN from the Miss America Organization. We had a quick interview. I shared with viewers the involvement that MAO has with CMN. I hope you guys got to see it! ;)

Every time that I attend a CMN event or have helped raise funds for them I continue to be amazed by the stories of individual children. I feel so blessed by the families who have taken the time to share and trust me with their child's unique story. I hope that you all have considered to make a donation to them. It's truly worth it!

Teen Driving Summit with Senator Amy Klobuchar

Today I was at Tartan High School experiencing first hand the Teen Driving Summit. I left with even more of an inspiration in making a difference in the decisions that teens make.

I wanted to give you a little background on the whole experience and who was there. Senator Amy Klobuchar has been working very hard since she was elected as our first female Minnesota Senator in the United States Senate. One of the many issues that she has influenced greatly has been with teen driving laws that she has been establishing. She introduced a bill entitled the Stand-Up Act which has focused on stricter laws with Graduated Drivers Licences (GDL) giving teens more time to learn how to drive without being distracted. That bill was passed and now is being in forced in the state of Minnesota with driving laws.

Today I witnessed her proposal of the Students Taking Action for Road Safety (STARS) Act.This bill will help programs such as Student's Against Destructive Decision (SADD) giving them more funds to implement peer to peer advice to address the issue of teen driving. Klobuchar will soon be proposing this bill in the United States Senate. Here is a quote from Senator Klobuchar. "No single law, or even set of laws, is going to be a cure-all that saves teens from getting hurt or killed on the road. It will take many things. Stronger laws and tougher law enforcement are important and essential. But it's also a matter of personal responsibility for teenagers. It's going to take all of us working together to make a difference. Ultimately, what we need is a cultural change, a shift in values, in what we view as acceptable and unacceptable."

Now that we have a little background let's get started. I met up with the Northern Lights SADD Director Lee Erickson and the National SADD Director Penny Wells, along with the incoming National SADD Student of the Year Jessica Roscoe on Monday night. This morning I awoke to a great breakfast and fabulous conversation about teen driving issues and Senator Klobuchar's viewpoints on the issue.

Then it was off to Tartan High where the Summit was held. We arrived early to get the perfect seats and to chat with other SADD students and directors. Before the Summit started the press had arrived! I got a chance to have a quick radio interview along with an interview with WCCO News. I informed them about my views on the issue of teen texting while driving.

The Summit was about and hour and a half long. A panel of six was involved informing the public about teen driving issues. Here are the people that were on the panel that was lead by Senator Klobuchar.

As you can see it was a very educated panel with a range of different expertise and advice. We were welcomed by Tartan High's Superintendent. She introduced Senator Amy Klobuchar. Klobuchar gave a brief history on the Stand-Up bill and followed with the introduction of the STARTS Act. We then got to hear a keynote from David of NHTSA talking about how to respect your vehicle, others, and yourself while driving. After his keynote we heard from every board member. Their comments ranged from the horrifying experiences with teen traffic deaths, to how important peer to peer eduacation is. Klobuchar ended with questions that were answered by herself and the panel members.

I learned a ton about how much of a difference Senator Klobuchar is trying to make a difference in the lives of teens. After all was complete I was able to chat with Jane Phillips who lost her 17 year old daughter to a distracted driver in 2007. I was also able to speak with David from NHTSA. I ended my day with a hand shake from Senator Klobuchar herself and a few words with her along with a quick picture.

It was a very informative day! I'm so thankful that I had the experience of being a part of the Summit. It was incredible! My involvement with Northern Lights SADD has just been fabulous in the past few months! I'm so glad that I have gotten the opportunity to share my platform as well as talk about the many struggles that teens are faced with today. Positive peer to peer work is going to be the way that we can fix the things that teens are trying to overcome.

Kohl's Kids Who Care

I was recently awarded a scholarship from the Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program. Kohl's Kids Who Care strives to recognize individuals with outstanding volunteer efforts and contributions within their community. This year is the 10th Anniversary of the Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program as they will be awarding 2,100 individuals who range in ages from 6-18 with awards and scholarships.

I was nominated by one of my teachers from Perham High. I was nominated for my efforts in spreading awareness of my platform "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke. I was awarded as a 2010 Store-Level Winner which entitles a gift card to Kohl's and a nomination to the regional level scholarship of $1,000.

KOHL's expect great things. will soon be publicizing the individuals who have been recognized in their unique community service outreaches.

This has been a huge honor for me! I'm so excited to be a part of the 2010 Store-Level Winners and the 10th Anniversary of this scholarship program. It has been incredible for me to witness my platform impacting the lives around me.

Ballet Recital 2010

Today I had my annual ballet recital with the Academy of Classical Ballet. I have been dancing for eight years now and I can't believe that I have come to my last show before my senior year. I dance three days a week, sometimes four, and have loved every minute of it. I can't even fathom that it has come to that time of year again.

I even got to share my love for singing with the duet I sang today at the recital! Combining my love for performing in one day! How can it get any better? ;)

Overall the recital went really well. It was great being able to share all of our hard work with others today. Now it is time to give my toes a rest until MMOT! I can't wait! Pageant week is coming up sooo fast. Grasping where the time has gone is just crazy!

MMOT Fundraiser at McCormick and Schmick's

I recently attended the Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen Fundraiser that was held at McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant in Minneapolis. I had a complete blast.

McCormick and Schmick's is a huge supporter of the the MMOT Program. They have great food! I was able to enjoy some of it today. ;) On Tuesday evening, of pageant week, all of the MMOT contestants will be taking a limo to the restaurant for supper.I'm really looking forward to spending a wonderful evening there!

It was so great catching up with the directors and contestants. It's been about three weeks since orientation. I was so excited to catch up with everyone!

Kate Ziegler, Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen, along with Diane Buszta the MMOT Director thanked everyone for coming out to support such a great program. I'm so thankful that I have the opportunity to work with the MAOT Organization. It has been such an astounding experience.

It is now 32 days until the next Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen will be crowned. I'm getting very anxious for June to arrive. I can't wait!!

Visit to Boys and Girls Club

I recently had the oppurtunity of visiting the Boys and Girls Club in Detroit Lakes, MN. They were quite the busy bunch and had a ton of questions for me!

The Boys and Girls Club is dedicated to providing a positive place for children after school and during the summer. They participate in a variety of different activites. I had quite a great time sharing my platform with all of them. They were a range of ages for about K-6 grade.

I started off by sharing a little bit of who I was and why I had come to visit them. They were quite interested in why I was wearing a crown. Some even just said "Who are you?" It was a great chance to talk about the MRRVOT Program and a little bit about myself.

I talked about my Grandpa Chuck who has COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulminary Disease) from smoking. He started smoking when he was about 16. To help the kids understand COPD I gave them a demonstration that helped them grasp the disease better. I brought straws along with me. I had them seal their lips around the straw and breathe through it. They thought it was quite easy. Then I had them jog for a minute.They were honest after jogging stating that it was a lot harder. There was one individual that did not participate in the activity because of their struggle with asthma. It was a great illistration for the kids of what smoking can do to their lungs. I told them that if they say no to that first cigarette they will stay healthy! I had one little guy say "I want to be a grandpa!" loud and proud! Very cute!

After the exercise I talked about my SAY NO Acronym and discussed each letter with them. They were very willing to speak up about their beliefs and ideas. We finished our time together with a few questions and then they all got to have their treats after I was done.

While I was get ready to the leave the facility a few girls came up to speak with me. They gave me fabulous hugs and they had to ask if I had ever been on "America's Next Top Model." I responded with "I haven't," but they still thought I should give it a shot. I love the innocence of children!

MMMOT is approaching quite fast! I'm very excited for the MMOT Fundraiser in the Coon Rapids this weekend! If you get a chance come out to McCormick's for a great meal while supporting a fabulous program!

Vergas Loons Anthem Performance

First off, Happy Mother's Day to all of you incredible Mother's out there! I hope all of you had a wonderful day and that your children were extra good for you! We appreciate you!

Today I performed the National Anthem for the Season Opener for the Vergas Loons in Vergas, MN. I represented the town of Vergas for one whole year as Princess Altona 2008 and I had performed for them before. It was great to return and sing for them! It was such an honor representing them. I always love visiting!

It was a quick trip, but great!

Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen is right around the corner! I'm getting overwhelmed with so much excitement and am anxious for June to be here. Just a few more weeks of my junior year are left! It's crazy to think about it!

Witnessing "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke"

I made a quick visit to the Prairie Wind Middle School the other day just to run a few errands. Two of my five siblings go to school there and so I often make a quick run through to pick up my brother or sister, or say a hello to fellow teachers and students.

I visited the middle school about a month ago with my SADD chapter.I led a presention of "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke," and the SADD members and our friends led some classroom disscussions. For more details check out my blog story!

As I was walking throughout the halls I stopped in my mid tracks and busy world. I stared at posters that were hanging on the wall. On these posters was the phrase "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." I smiled and a few thoughts ran into my mind. I just wanted to share them with you.

I have now spoken to 3,000 pre-teens, and teens about teen smoking issues. I have given these students the tools they will need to implement "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" in their schools and organizations. It's so humbling! After I speak though I leave and don't get to see right away how it has made a differnece in their lives. But this time I did. It's so exciting to see my platform impacting my peers and the people around me. It's such a blessing.

Visit to Frazee Elementary!

On Tuesday I went to visit Frazee, Mn, Miss Minnesota 2008 Alyssa Mayfield's hometown. :) They had asked me to visit with their 4th graders about living a life smoke-free. I was delighted to come visit.

I have now spoken to many different age groups about teen smoking prevention and I'm finding that every presentation is unique and different in their own special way. Each age group is approached at a different level. I love that about speaking to all ages. The great thing too is that everyone knows someone who has been effected by smoking. I can relate as both of my grandfathers and father is a smoker. Each time I speak it's a new and challenging experience. It's a complete blessing!

The Frazee 4th graders were full of energy. They had so many questions for me! I was thrilled to answer them. They gave me their fullest attention. There were 75 of them in a tiny room. I was impressed with how they stayed focus! I visited with them for 45 minutes. They all got their own personal word find and brochure. I even captured some great photos with them.

After I visited with the 4th graders I just had to stop by the Headstart Room. I have never seen so many cute pre-schoolers at one time before. They all wanted to know my name, but more importantly they wanted me to know theirs! So cute! They were so ecstatic to be greeted by a "princess". I think the staff talked them into that one. ;). I got an adorable picture with them. Some of them had trouble looking at the camera because the "princess" was in the room! I love kids!

Frazee is the home of the largest turkey. I know it's a random fact, but if your driving through northern Minnesota you should take a stop and check out the adorable town.

Thank you EOT 4-H Federation

As soon as I was crowned back in September I was so thrilled to really hit the ground running with my platform "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke."

I have been invloved with 4-H for seven year. The four H's are Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. 4-H promotes community involvement through leadership. I help with local 4-H programs and every summer my projects are displayed at the East Ottertail County Fair.

This past Monday I was able to visit the East Ottertail Federation at their meeting! They donated to my platform and are so supportive. I wanted to make a visit to them personally and thank them for their generousity.

I had the oppurtunity of speaking. I talked about my year as Miss Red River Oustanding Teen and shared about my "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" educational packets. They were so excited to hear about what I had been up to and several of them took educational packets to share in their schools and 4-H Clubs!

I would like to thank the EOT 4-H Federation once again for all of their help and support. You guys are amazing!

Facebook Fan Page Goal Made!

Back in December I created a Facebook Fan Page entitled "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." I have talked about it a bit before on my blog. :) As many of you know Facebook is a huge social networking site that has become more and more popular each year. I thought by creating the page it would expose teens to my platform and allow them to ask questions.

Every time I speak I encourage pre-teens and teens to check it out! Each week I update my page with a statistic or an encouraging note. My Facebook page is also promoted on my public service announcements that are on 5 radio stations with Lakes Radio.

I have had some encouraging responses to the page! There are many teens who want to put and end to teen smoking! It's very exciting!

I made a goal to have 1,000 fans join in my fight to end teen smoking. This past week my goal was achieved with the help of my family, friends, and of course fans! "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke," now has 1,073 fans. The fans continue to increase!

I would like to thank all of my fans! You guys are great!

MMOT Orientation

I just got back from an incredible time at Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen Orientation which was held at Ephiphany Church in Coon Rapids. I was able to get a lot of my questions answered about pageant week and narrow down every last intricate detail! June is just around the corner and I'm getting more excited and anxious the closer it gets!

The day started with a fabulous greeting from Diane Buszta and some of the amazing board members of MMOT. They were so welcoming! I was able to look at some fabulous photo albums from the current MMOT Katlyn Ziegler's year. I also got to chat with a few girls as we all arrived.

There are twelve incredible girls running for MMOT this year! I'm so glad to see the program expanding. We drew for contestant number. I am contestant number 3! I'm excitd about that. :)

We then moved into our official photo shoot! I was able to work with Mike from O'Halloran Photography. He has been working with MMOT for about a year now and has been such an amazing supporter. He was so great, I must tell you! He made the contestants and I all very comfortable. We got some great shots individually and as a group!

Then it was more valuable information and time to talk with Jeff our sound tech! :) I feel at ease and I'm so thankful for his help!

I was measured for my dress that I will be wearing for the Rodney Alfred Photo Shoot that the contesants and I will all be a part of. This is new for MMOT this year! I can't wait for the photo shoot!

I enjoyed a great lunch after a busy morning! It hit the spot. We receivend some more information and a presentation from Megan who is our MMOT producer. She is going to be great to work with! Katlyn also gave us a summary of her year. She truly has had an amazing year.

I finished the day with some final words with the great girls and autograph signing.

The day started at 10 and concluded at 2. It was packed day full of great information. We learned about everything from backstage details to photo shoots, limo rides, and of course practice, rehersals, and the overall production of the pageant. I can't even begin to explain my excitement about the entire experience. I'm so blessed!

As I anxiously await June it has allowed me to reflect on all that the MAOT Organizaion has done for me. The doors that have been opened for me as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen have taught me so much.

Yesterday marked the two month mark until pageant day! :) Not too many days left...

I would like to give a special thanks to all of the MMOT volunteers! Your help is what keeps the program alive!

TV3 Interview

I'm so excited to represent all of you as your Miss America Outstanding Teen! Haha just kidding! Happy April Fool's Day everyone!

I had the complete honor of being interviewed by TV3 which is a local tv station from Perham, MN. They cover lots of different things in Perham and highlight people who are active in the community. I was so honored to film for their morning show.

I spoke about my platform and what I have been up to from SADD Conferences, presenting workshops, visiting schools, and of course interviews!

I will be on the morning show which will run next week. I wish I could give you exact details of what time I will be on and the exact day, but I don't have the info for you. If I get any updates I will let you know!

Pizza Ranch Fundraiser a Success!

I recently held a fundraiser in Perham at the Pizza Ranch for Children's Miracle Network and "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." I had a ton of visitors! It was a great night.

The event was held from 5-7 and it was a full house the entire night. I was able to chat with quite a few people. I loved that! Any opportunity that I have to talk about CMN or my platform excites me. I am so passionate about both of them. Holding the fundraiser allowed me to do that.

I had so many cute little girls come to visit me. They are so adorable. It's funny how much a crown can make their day. I even let a couple of girls try it on! They were ecstatic. :)

I love my home town of Perham. I have recieved such an overwhelming amount of support from them. I appreciate them so much!

Thanks to all who came out to Pizza Ranch! I couldn't fulfill my job without your encouragement and constant support!

Perham High SADD Members and Friends Visit PWMS

Last week I spoke with seventh graders from Prairie Wind Middle School. This week I spoke with the 5th, 6th, and 8th graders. My SADD members from Perham High traveled with me to also speak to each classroom individually.

We had a very busy afternoon planned for them. We had two high school students go into each classroom in each grade. They spoke with kids about SADD and making good decisions and how to say no when someone asks you to smoke.

I addressed each grade on a personal level. I shared my personal stories with them and informed them with some shocking statistics. It was a very busy afternoon and the kids kept me on my feet. I adjusted to each grades enthusiasm. I had a 6th grader ask me if I was famous. I laughed. My sixth grade teacher piped up and said that I was. I had to smile. It brought me back to my days at Prairie Wind Middle School.

25 PHS SADD members and our friends along with myself had an incredible day speaking with the very energetic kids from Prairie Wind. I hope they had a blast!

Anoka SADD Conference and "It's No Joke, Say No to Smoke" campaign packets given out to schools in the Tri-State Area

After the incredible Northern Lights SADD Conference in Jamestown, North Dakota I traveled to the Anoka SADD Conference to speak about "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." It was great follow up to the Jamestown Conference and a way to exercise my new position on the Northern Lights Advisory Board.

I was able to meet some very inspiring people while I was there! I had the complete honor to chat with the Keynote Speaker Cara Filler who was raised in Vancouver Canada, and now resides in Oregon. When I first met her she joked that we could be sisters. I was overwhelmed by her positive and unique presence. Throughout her keynote she shared her experience of how she lost her twin sister the day after their 18th birthday. I have meet some very amazing people in the last week from the different SADD events I have traveled to.

After Cara spoke with us for about an hour I had my first workshop. I had a great group of people from eleven different schools in Minnesota. I have had such a priveledge to reach teens my age and spread more awareness of teen smoking prevention at many different SADD Events on a Tri-State Level in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. I also was able to give another workshop that afternoon and had the oppurtunity to speak to a highway patrol expert.

At the tri-state SADD events I have been at I have handed out my "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" Curriculum packets to 35 different schools. Each packet contains tools in which students can bring back to their schools to implement the "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke," Teen Smoking Prevention Plan. There are things from resources, reproduible pages, possible smoking situations, statistics, a letter from me, and a interview video that I conducted with my grandpa, who suffers from COPD, and my dad who is a current smoker.

I'm so excited for what SADD is doing to help students make good decisions for a lifetime. Not smoking goes hand in hand with SADD and I'm so excited for how SADD and "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" is going to positivley affect my generation.

Priness Parlor at Heart of the Lakes Elementary Carnival

I had the opportunity of having a quite a bit of fun with some students from the Heart of the Lakes Elementary. Each year the HOTL has a carnival to help defray costs of classroom circulium and expenses. My friend Emily Peterson, Miss Polar Fest, and I decided to help out by having a "Princess Parlor."

Our "Princess Parlor consisted of an adorable pink room decorated with gold trim, and made complete with decorated tables to make the "princesses" or "princes" feel special.

We had a complete blast with all of the kids. I painted fingers from small girls, older girls, and even the boys had their finger nails painted! I think I painted 1,000 adorable little fingers. Very cute!

Emily and I had a complete blast. I hope you enjoy the pictures! I think say a ton!Cute and silly! Very complete. :)

Northern Lights SADD Conference

I had one of the most incredible experiences over this past weekend and the beginning of this week. I traveled to Jamestown, North Dakota to attend the Northern Lights SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Conference.

I arrived in Jamestown on Saturday. I had applied to be on the Northern Light Advisory Board (NLAB). This board is made up of 12 members and are the student representatives of the tri-state Northern Lights Region of North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. When I arrived in Jamestown I was able to meet many other students from across the region. After settling into our hotel rooms all of the 20 candidates traveled to Jamestown College for Leadership Training. We spent the day there having discussions about NLAB and SADD. We also had played some ice breaker and leadership games. We had a blast! After our day of training we enjoyed a meal from Jamestown College and were able to have a tour of the campus. After our long day we made our way to Wal-Mart to end the day with a hilarious game. I had to find the 10 cheapest items in Wal-Mart in 45 minutes. Guess what?? I only spent $2.77. :) We had a great day and I was very excited to meet amazing new people!

Sunday I was up early. I had an interview with the Board of Directors and a little help preparing the my speech. My interview went very well! After my busy morning I attended church with a couple of great girls! After we got back from church we had a fabulous lunch at the Civic Center and waited until our SADD Chapter's Arrived. While waiting for my SADD Chapter I was able to meet many different teens from across the states. I shared a little info about my platform with some other teens and had a blast getting to know other member involved with SADD. My SADD Chapter arrived around 5:30 and the rest of night was filled with amazing presentations and activities.

Monday I had the opportunity of giving two hour long workshops on my platform, "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." I shared a powerpoint and a video of the interviews I had conducted with my grandfather who was diagnosed with COPD and my Dad who is also a current smoker. The workshops were a great success. I was able to hand out 24 campaign packets to different SADD Chapters around ND, SD, and MN in which they will be able to take back to their hometown to implement "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" in their schools! I'm very excited about that! That night we attended a Town Hall Meeting in which SADD addressed the issue of Underage Drinking. It was so incredible to witness all of the teens stand up to an important issue. It was very moving! The rest of the day was filled with speakers. I also had the opportunity to go on stage and sing a little bit! The day was busy and filled with incredible memories!

Tuesday was my last day at the Conference. This day I gave my NLAB speech to the SADD members from across the region. After speeches were concluded we all enjoyed a yummy banquet dinner. After enjoying a great meal the NLAB was announced. I sat nervously awaiting. My name was the first called and I was very relieved and excited all at the same time. I made my way up to the stage and received hugs and congratulations from the directors of NL SADD. I then had 11 others join me on stage as they were called to the stage. Many tears were shed and it was a very exciting time! The 800 people that were there ended our day together with a candle light ceremony. This was my highlight of the trip! I had the privilege after being announced as an NLAB member for 10-11 of helping light these 800 candles. After the entire room was lit with light we all lifted our candles high symbolizing that we will all make good decision together and we will make it our goal to have other's join us!

The conference was so incredible! I am so confident to share with you that Northern Light's SADD future is so bright! I can't wait to serve them on the NLAB this next year! It is such a huge honor. I look forward to watching the future unfold!

Visit to Prairie Wind Middle School

Today I had the priveledge to visit with the seven graders who attend Prairie Wind Middle School in Perham, MN. They were so great to work with! It was a long day packed with speaking, and very energetic young teens!

My health teacher back from seventh grade invited to come into her health classes to speak with her studends about smoking. They had been learning about tobacco this past week and they were already filled with many facts and stories! I even learned a few things from them.

I spoke to five different groups. I had about 53 minutes to cover as much as I could with them. At the beginning of each hour I had a little icebreaker for the kids. I started by sharing with them that when I asked a rhetorical question I wanted them to stand if they could answer it. I started with having kids stand if they had a parent who smoked, and then moved to if they had a family member who smoked (aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters.) Each class were on their feet after only just asking two questions. Sometimes I had kids that told me they didn't know anyone who smoked! I was very excited to hear that, but they still seemed to know smokings impact on society. I was able to share with them a little bit about myself and the MAOT Organizaiton. I had a powerpoint for them to view and we had a great discussion with our SAY NO Acronym! We ended our time together with a little game of jeopardy! I was surprised to find that they were listening much more than I thought they were. :)

I had a fabulous day and I only hope that I gave them the answer they will need when they are asked to try that first cigarette.

Tomorrow morning I will be leaving for NL SADD Confrence in Jamestown. I can't wait to meet many SADD Chapters from all across the state of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. I will be updating my blog as soon as I get back.

Red River Valley Flood Fight

I'm sure that many of you have been watching the news and are informed about the Flood Fight in the Red River Valley. I would like to encourage you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as many families have had to leave their homes and prepare for the flood waters.

I'm encouraged to tell you that Perham High School was going to take off a day of school work to help in the flood fight. However, we got a call from the Fargo/Moorhead Area that we were no longer needed. They had reached their goal of getting a million sand bags to area homes to protect them from the flood. The Red River is "scheduled" to crest this Saturday. Fargo/Moorhead is patiently awaiting the effects of the crest, but they are confident that all is in good hands.

Just wanted to give you a quick update. I'm so honored to represent the Red River Valley Area. I don't like to see them in very stressful situations. I'm so confident that all will be ok and that the Red River will treat us well. :)

Special Olympics National Anthem

This past Thursday I sang the National Anthem for the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament in my hometown of Perham, MN.

Last year I sang at this event as Princess Altona. I was so honored to be asked to sing again. I love seeing all of the athletes and getting to visit with them. I recieved many hugs and congrats on my title.

Amanda Wothe introduced me. She is such a fabulous young woman. Amanda has downs syndrome, but nothing stops her! She even spoke at her graduation! She is such an inspiration. Lacey Erickson, Miss Heart of the Lakes was there as the Special Guest. She encouraged all of the atheletes to work their hardest as a team and as an individual. I had a blast catching up with her! Her words of encouragement before I sang were great! (She is also a singer.) :)

After the athletes had made there march, and the color gaurd was introduced by Amanda, I sang our National Anthem. I was pleased with how it went!

I hope that all of the athletes had a complete blast! I would like to thank the Perham Area Special Olympics for inviting me once again to be part of their wonderful event.

Visiting the Red River Valley!

Bethany I and got together in Moorhead this past week to make a few appearances. We had a busy day filled with news casts, hospital and nursing home visits, and our fundraiser for CMN at Pizza Ranch in Glyndon.

VALLEY NEWS LIVE
The Valley News Live from Fargo-Moorhead decided to feature Bethany and I on our efforts to raise money for CMN as well as to share about our personal platforms.
Wednesday started promtly at 4:00 AM. The Courtyard Marriot of Moorhead graciously donated a room for Bethany and I to stay in the night before. We, along with our director Melissa, arrived at Pizza Ranch in Glyndon at 5 AM. We were both very excited a bit nervous. We were greeted by Dean who is the general manager of the Pizza Ranch in Glyndon. As I walked in I joked with him a little, stating that I wanted pizza right now bright and early. He lauged at my joke...Little did I know he had actually prepared some breakfast pizza for us!! I was amazed by his complete support and thoughtfulness towards the both of us.

After recieving some coffee, which was really needed at the time, STEVE POITRAS arrived to interview us along with his camera man! The camera was set up, and before we knew it, it was rolling. We were interviewed on 3 different 2 minute incraments talking about CMN and our platforms. The filming was all done live! Great practice, I must say! The recording took about an hour. It went extremely fast! The expereience was so great! Steven and his crew were great to work with!

I had received many calls throghout the day from family, and friends saying that they say me on TV! It was a great learning experience and such a blast!

MERIT CARE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL VISIT
After Bethany and I had taken a quick nap to recover from the early morning we met up with the CMN coordinator Hillary for a tour of the Children's Hospital.

I hope that if you have never gotten to see the beautiful Children's Hospital that you would take the time to take a tour and learn about the incredible hospital! The entire 4th floor of the Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND is dedicated to children. The floor has an adorable theme with a forest feel, including one character named Alphonz who is the mouse kind of the hospital! Bethany and I were so amazed by every unique detail to mail boxes, special clocks, skyline ceiling, and a special play room that fits to every age group!

One of the highlights of the tour was getting to visit with a few young patients!

I would like to first introduce you to six year old Jada. She had gotten her tonsils out a few hours before Bethany and I had visited her. Jada and I clicked right away! I shared with her that I had also gotten my tonsils out when I was six. She nodded her head and blinked her beautiful big brown eyes as I told her that I knew it hurt. She got enough energy to eat a popsicle when Bethany I were there. Before we left she told us that we both looked "very pretty." So precious!

I also had the complete honor of meeting 14 year old Morgan. Morgan was diagnosed with cancer not to long ago. She shared with Bethany I that she was only supposed to be in the hospital for 5 days, but she ended up getting sick from her chemo treatments. I asked her if she was almost done with her treatments. She told me that this was only her second round and she had many more rounds to go. I am pleased to share with you that despite her situation she was very positive! We didn't really talk much about the cancer that had changed her life, but every day ordinary things from high school, to getting your nails done. She was such an inspiring young woman! I can't imagine having to be in the hospital fighting cancer my freshman year of high school. I'm so confident that Morgan will continue to fight strong! It was a very humbliing experience to meet such an amazing girl. I often fought back tears as I thought about my crown, being held on my head, by pins that were holding on to my hair. I had woke up that morning and got to curl my hair. Morgan didn't have that experiene I did that morning. You may not think about something that simple, but to Morgan I'm sure it's huge! I would encourage you to keep her in your prayers. I hope that she is as much as an inspiration to you as she is to me.

The Merit Care Children's Hospital is supported by CMN. If you are thinking about making a donation I hope this stories will give that extra push to do so!

EVENTIDE ASSISTED LIVING AND NURSING HOME
After having a fabulous lunch Bethany and I traveled to Eventide to speak to residents about CMN and our pesonal platforms. I got to share a little bit about myself and my platform "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." I talked with several ladies that had never been smokers! I was so proud of them. I also had the oppurtunity to chat with a retired Vocal Music Educator. I want to be a vocal music teacher some day! It was so fun to learn more about it from someone who had experienced it for 25 years.

Bethany and I had a blast visiting with all of the residents and enjoyed there questions. We signed autograph cards and sang songs for them. They were all so great to chat with! They are so wise! Every time I visit wtih the older generation I learn something new! :)

SUCCESSFUL FUND RAISER AT PIZZA RANCH
At 4:30 it was back to the Pizza Ranch in Glyndon for our Children's Miracle Network Fundraiser! We were there for 3 years speaking with customers and encourging them to make donations. We signed several more autograph cards! We also same "Happy Birthday" to a basketball coach! His basketball players were around 12! I spoke with them about staying smoke-free if they wanted to continue to excel in basketball. They all agreed!

I spoke with many adorable young girls and boys as they enjoyed there meal about my platform as well. They shared many different stories with me. I'm so excited to tell you that not one child I met wanted to be a smoker when they "grow up." I also got to share my personal story with an older couple after they enjoyed there pizza! They were so supportive of what I have been doing to educate my generation about staying smoke-free! I got some great pictures of many of the people I had the oppurtunity to meet! I hope you enjoy them!

The night ended before Bethany and I knew it and we sat and enjoyed or very own pizza with our families and directors.

We had a complete blast that entire day and were so thankful for the many more stories to share with you!

PSA Recorded at Lakes 99.5

This past Monday I recorded a Public Service Announcement (PSA) that will be played on five different Lakes Radio Stations. Lakes 99.5, Groovy 102, Z 103.3, KJ Country 96.5, and KBRF AM 1250. I have been very fortunate to work with Lakes 99.5 for the past couple of years.

My PSA was exactly this...

It's istimated taht 6,000 teens will try their first cigarette today and half of them will become addicted. I'm Paige Meyer Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen. I'm very excited that "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" will be promoted on many radio stations. It took about an hour to get the PSA absolutly perfect. After it was recorded it was placed into the radio system for the public to hear. I learned that my public service announcement will play from 2-3 times a day until the end of August!

Every Friday at my high school we end class a few minutes early to recap the week on WPHS Magazine. WPHS is our school newscast. The SADD Chapter that I'm a part of was featured in WPHS including an interview with our advisor Shelley Bunkowske, and clips of the officers. I am the Vice President of the SADD Chapter at Perham High School. I was very excited to see that SADD made the newscast for my high school! My platform "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" was also showcased along with the PHS SADD Chapter.

I was able to share with people at my school to become a FAN of "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke" on Facebook. I would like to encourage you to become a fan. National Pankcake Day at IHOP

February 23rd, 2009 was National Pancake Day. In honor of this unique day I traveled to the Fargo IHOP to visit with all of the customers who came out to support Children's Miracle Network. I was there for 3 hours and had a complete blast with so many people who were just as excited about National Pancake Day as I was.

I had the oppurtunity of greeting and seating people as they came to eat their pancakes! I was able to share with many families as I seated them about Children's Miracle Network and my personal platform "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." I brought along my brochures that I recently had put together. They share about how my platform was created and a little bit about myself. It's always great to have them along with me to share my story with others.

IHOP got very busy around supper time. We even had to have some families wait in the entry way to be seated. To keep many of the families entertained I visited with them, and handed out signed brochures. I was able to get a couple of great photos.

I met many great people who had association with Children's Miracle Network. This story still sticks out in my mind from Tuesday Evening. While I was visiting with children as they enjoyed their pancakes, I was able to start conversations by handing them a brochure. I had a little girl tell me that her grandma smoked and that she really wanted her to stop. Her mom shared with me that it is often a topic she brings up every time she see's her grandma. I told her to keep encouraging her and to smile big for her when she asked her to stop smoking. After talking a bit about my platform with her I asked if she and her family knew about CMN. She confidently told me that she did. Her mom nudged her and told her to tell me why they were there having pankcakes. She told me that her little brother was in the hospital. I asked why, and she replied that he was born to early. "He weighed only 1 lb" she told me. Little Andrew now weights almost 3 lbs and is growing strong. I signed her brochure. "Dream Big, God Bless!" and Andrew, Grow Big!" It still amazes me how people can come out and support Children's Miracle Network while they wait to bring their new little one home. I hope Andrew will be going home with his family soon.

I also had the opputunity to teach a little bit of ballet to a little girl who wants to be in ballet "So Bad!" I taught her first position. Later on in the evening I learned that she taught Miss Fargo Stephanie first poisition. Kids are so cute! I spoke with a solider, and his two children. They were great. I also met many photogenic little girls! They are all so adorable!

I would like to thank Melissa my pageant director, Hillary who is the CMN coordinator, Tammy the owner of IHOP in Fargo, and all of the families who shared their personal stories with me and allowed me to get great photos with their children!

Cares for Kids...Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Radiothon

Yesterday I traveled to Merit Care in Fargo to help out at the Cares for Kids Radiothon. This year radio stations Y94,Mojo,and Bob FM all came together to promote Children's Miracle Network and recieve donations to keep CMN going strong.As many of you know the Children's Miracle Network is the National Platform for the Miss America and Miss America Outstanding Teen Organizations. Each year Miss America local, and state contestants raise thousands of dollars for this organization that makes miracles happen for sick children.

The Cares for Kids Radiothon is taking place February 18th, 19th, and 20th on three of your radio stations. Y94, Mojo, and Bob FM. Many of you may have been hearing the incredible stories of how young children have overcome cancer, disorders, and severe accidents. The stories are very inspiring. These radio stations have been broadcasting these stories in hopes of raising thousands of dollars to continue to make miracles happen.

I decided that I really wanted to help out! Hillary, the CMN Coordinator organized a way for me to help. I traveled to Merit Care in Fargo. They have an incredible childrens medical center. All three of the radio stations had set up on the 4th Floor where many children recieve health care for their certain needs. For 2 hours I took donations over the phone. I'm very excited to share with you that during the two hours I was there $8,640 were raised for Children's Miracle Network!!! Many generous people gave 12 donations of $20 a month, which is $240 a year, while other's made one time offers. I was able to speak with many of the donators and take their information over the phone. I even got to speak to a donor who was giving a 20*12 donation in honor of her new born niece. It was a very humble experience to see many people coming together to make a difference in a child's life.

One of the highlights for me was the Live Radio Interview that I had with Ryan Kelly, from Mojo! I had the oppurtunity to speak about the Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Program, but most importantly Children's Miracle Network. I spoke of my experience with CMN and encouraged listeners to keep me busy with phone calls. I also had the oppurtunity to share that $20 is just sacrificing something as simple as going out to eat twice a month. The listener's did keep me busy! I had a blast.

I also got to meet Zero, Rat, and Megan from Y94's Morning Playhouse. I'm sure many of you listen each morning to Y94. It's always great getting to meet the people that you listen to each morning on your way to school or work. They were great! They were just as excited about the donations that we were getting for CMN as I was. They spoke with several patients at Merit Care while I was there. I got to listen in on an interview of an 18 year old young man who had been fighting cancer since he was 16. It touched my heart to hear many of the stories of incredible young teens just like me who are fighting for their lives. I'm so fortunate to be blessed with good health. I do forget many times how lucky I truly am.

Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron!

Last Saturday Caressa Cameron, Miss Virginia, was crowned Miss America 2010! Each year I look forward to the Miss America Pageant. It's always a big celebration. I attended a Miss America Party at my pageant directors home. We enjoyed fabulous food and loved every minute of the pageant!

I must have to say, the competition seemed to be tight this year. It's always reassuring to know that there are great young women in the Miss America Organization who are extremly talented! Not to mention our very own Miss Minnesota, Brooke Kilgarriff. I was able to stay posted on how she was doing on her blog that was live from Vegas! Although Brooke did not take the crown, she did a fabulous job representing the state of Minnesota! I can't wait to chat with her about her incredible experience.

I hope to someday be competing for the title of Miss America. It would be one of the most incredible learning experiences of my life. I can't wait to compete for Miss Minnesota Outstading Teen this June. I have been busy with preperation, but June will be here before I know it. I'm so excited. Who knows? Maybe I will be running for Miss America's Outstanding Teen this August? I guess we will have to wait and see. One step at a time!

Miss Polar Fest 2010!

Last Sunday I attended the Miss Polar Fest Pageant. Miss Teen Polar Fest and Miss Polar Fest is the main kick-off event for the Polar Fest Celebration in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The pageant was very exciting for me! Two of the girls I had competed with in Princess Altona 2008 where vying for the titles.

I had the oppurtunity to share a little bit about my platform. "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke," and the Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen Program. I had a blast catching up with the visitiing royalty girls. It's always great to see all of your friends you have made throught the year! I was able to chat with Kendra Posch who is Princess Altona 2009. I was Princess Altona in 2008 and had the oppurtunity of crowning her as my successor in August. (just a month before I was crowned Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen) :). I was also able to visit with Miss Frazee Outstanding Teen, Elizabth Anderson. She and I will compete together at Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen this June. We are both very excited! You meet so many new people as you attend different events and make appearences. It's one of my favorite parts of holding a title. I have gained so many friendships that I know will last a lifetime.

Emily Peterson was crowned Miss Polar Fest 2010. She sang Pie Jesu from Gabriel Faure's Requiem. She did a beauitful job! I was very excited to watch her win her first crown. Emily and I dance together at the Academy of Classical Ballet and we sing together in our high school Concert and Swing Choirs. We have become great friends and I'm so excited that she has joined the sister royalty.

Maggie Wothe was the interview and talent winner of the teen title. She sang Let It Be by the Beetles. She sang her heart out. Maggie competed with me in 2008 for the title of Princess Altona. I had an amazing time watching her compete from the audience.

I am very proud of both of these two girls. They did a fabulous job! It has been incedible getting to know them. I can't wait for more that is to come!

NYC Choir Trip

For the past 18 months I have been planning and fundraising for a trip to the "Big Apple" for the oppurtunity to sing at Carnegie Hall with my high school Concert Choir. After many months of hard work and planning 37 choir kids, including myself, made the journey to New York City.

The trip truly went from a dream and became a reality for us as soon as we got there. There are so many highlights from the trip it would take me forever to share them all with you. As I look back, however, my favorite moment was when I sang at the Apollo Theater. If you don't know much about the famous Apollo Theater. I hope Ella Fitzgerald, Richie Vallens, Alicia Keys, Micheal Jackson, Jennifer Hudson all sound a bit familiar. All of these people have performed on the stage of the Apollo Theater. It was so incredible to know that I sang on the same stage where so many legends were made. Of course Carnegie Hall was incredible as well. I can't believe I made that dream become a true reality. I walked across the Brooklyn Bidge, had my face in Times Square on the American Eagle billboard, met David Blane, saw the beautiful NYC view from The Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center, attended the broadway musical "Mary Poppins and stood at Ground Zero.

I was overwhelmed with a differnet fast paced culture. I was shocked to find that the people from New York where extremly friendly and welcoming. I hope to go back soon!! I could definalty see myself spending a lot of my time there in the future. I will just have to wait and see where God takes me. I encourage all of you to check out New York City if you never have! It's great!

My last morning in New York was perfect. About 20 of us from the choir group went to CBS: The Early Show hoping to make it on national television. I never thought that I would get the oppurtunity to model on national television. When I arrived to the studios of CBS I volunteered to model some "Cool Winter Weather Gear." I was so excited! I had my 15 minutes of fame in New York City! I attached a clip so that you can watch the newscast. I felt right at home in front of the camera. I didn't get nervous. I'm confident that it was my pageant background that gave me the confidence. I hope you enjoy!!

Eventide Assisted Living/ Pizza Ranch for CMN

Bethany and I recently visited with residents at the Eventide Assisted Living in Moorhead. We served cheesecake and coffee to the residents and had the oppurtunity to speak with them. It continues to amaze me every time I visit nursing homes or assisted living centers. Each time I visit with the "older generation" I learn how fortunate I am to live in the times I do today. I spoke with a couple who had been married 37 years. The incredible part, is that they married in their mid 40s. They told me about the farm they raised together. This gave me the oppurtunity to share with them that farms are still around...and that I live on one of them! It was interesting to have something in common with them. I also met a 90 year old man who loves music just as I do! We spoke about our favorite music and I shared with him my desire to become a music teacher. We ended our time together by singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." I have to say he was pretty good! Sooooo cute! :) It was great to hear the stories of Christmas and the Holidays from many years ago. I was excited to hear that many of the residents were going to be spending the Christmas Season with their families. Bethany and I were asked several times how we recieved our titles. This was a great oppurtunity to share with them the benefits of the Miss America and Miss America Outstanding Teen Organizations. We both had a blast!

After our visit to Eventide we made our way to the Pizza Ranch in Glyndon. The national platform for Miss America is the Children's Miracle Network. Part of competing for Miss Minnesota is promoting this organization. I had the honor of helping Bethany in her efforts for raising money for this incredible foundation. 15% of the profit of Pizza Ranch's sales went directly to CMN as well as the tips that were made that night. The event was very successful. Congrats to Bethany and for all of the hard work she put in to touch the lives of children involved with CMN!

SADD Meeting a Success!

I wanted to share with all of you some very exciting news! SADD which stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions has been absent from Perham High for the past two years. As of right now SADD is back up and running!! I was recently given the oppurtunity to be a member of SADD and now hold the title of Vice President for the group. After school today we held a SADD kick-off party. I was not expecting to have the turn out that we did. We now have 15 new members! We spent a couple of hours visiting about the future for the group and the goals we have. I also was able to share about my platform "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke," with the kids in my High School. I shared about the diseases both of my grandfathers posses from the decision they made to start smoking during their teens years. The impact they have had on me to spread awarness of teen smoking has given me the passion to share my concern for this issue. It was so exciting to see other teens my age passionate about this issue as well. I'm confident that I am not in this fight alone! Each month SADD is going to have a special project in which we do things for the community. Our next be project is going to be getting students in our high school to get clothing out of their closests that they no longer need or wear. We hope to bring a huge clothing donation to a church in Richville, MN for them to hand out to families in need this Chirstmas season. SADD will be helping me with a project this February as I promote smoking prevention in the ones you "love." :)We also hope to have a project that promotes good decision making during Prom in May.I'm so excited to see all of the potential that SADD has to become a group that changes lives in our high school. National Anthem for the Fargo Force Hockey Team

I recently had the oppurtunity to sing the National Anthem for the Fargo Force Hockey Team. I was inspired to start singing the National Anthem my freshman year of High School when I had many close to me serving overseas in Iraq. Over the past two and a half years I have sang the National Anthem for 30 different sporting, and pageant events. Each time I sing it I think of the people close to me that have sacrificed so much to serve our amazing country.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend I traveled to Fargo and sang for the Fargo Force Hockey Team. I arrived at the Urban Plains Stadium and was immideatly greeted by a Fargo Force staff member who new my name. I laughed when he said "Nice to meet you! It's Paige Meyer, right?" I then meet with Whitney for my sound check. She led my family and I around the halls and locker rooms of the stadium to the penalty box for my sound check. I had never sang in such a big stadium before. It took a while to get used to the echo that was behind me. It seemed like I was singing different words then what I was hearing. It all went very well. After the sound check my family and I walked around the stadium taking many pictures. I also got to see some very cute hockey boys. :)

At 6:45 I met up with Whitney once again to sing the National Anthem, but for real this time. I sat and waited and drank lots of water and played my starting note in my pitch pipe over, and over. After 30 National Anthems I have learned that those two items are essential to how my performance goes. After waiting for about 15 minutes the game started as all of the hockey players were announced in their starting line ups. Finally I recieved a little nudge from Whitney as she told me to go ahead and step out on the ice. I heard my name announced as I hummed my starting pitch. I started singing and out of the corner of my eye say my face and name on the big screen. I must say I felt like a "star." Before I knew it I was singing "...and the home of the brave..." As I stepped off the ice I recieved cheers from the crowd and hockey players. I have never felt so honored to sing the Anthem before.

After singing I joined my family to watch the game. Each game the Fargo Force has special events in which the fans can give back to their community. Saturday's game was "Teddy Bear night." Every teddy bear recieved was going to Children's Hospitals throughout the area. I brought a big Teddy Bear to throw onto the ice and be a participant. In the end of the first period the Force scored a goal with 15 seconds left on the timer. As a way of congratulating them, the fans along with myself, threw hundreds of teddy bears onto the ice. It was exciting to see so many teddy bears on the ice at one time. I hope they will put a smile on the face of the children that recieve them. The Fargo Force won the game with a score of 5-0. Congrats to them!!

I had an amazing experience and I would like to thank Melissa, and staff at the Fargo Force for setting up the performance. It was my honor. I would ask all of you who are reading that you would remember and pray for those who serve and have served as you hear the National Anthem. I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend!

Parade of Lights in F/M and Perham

This past Tuesday my sister queen Bethany and I participated in the Fargo/Moorhead Parade of Lights. We had a complete blast! Before the parade started we got to meet a gingerbread man, sat in a limo, and meet some Harley bikers! It was truly amazing to see so many people in the Holiday spirit! The parade route took an hour and a half. It started in Moorhead, we crossed the Red River, and went into Fargo. Bethany and I stayed warm which was awesome! We both were waving like crazy at all of the amazing people as we sang along to the Christmas carols that were on the radio behind our float. We both had an incredible time!

Tonight I was in my hometown of Perham. Last year I rode through the parade as Princess Altona. This year I rode through as Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen. What a blessing! My grandma and siblings helped decorate my lovley lit up float. It was a little bit more chilly then it was on Tuesday, but I stayed warm!

It's always exciting to see so many people together celebrating one important and special Holiday. The birth of our Savior! I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving. I hope your tummies are not to full! Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all are getting your decorations out for Christmas!

Crown to Cinderella

Three days after I won the title of Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen I was cast as Cinderella in my hometown's community musical. It has always been my dream to be a part of a musical because I love to sing and dance. Never did I think that at 16 years old I would have a lead role in my first ever musical. It was such a challenging and rewarding experience. I learned so much about myself and was able to further develop my talents. I was blessed to work with very talented directors and I have never recieved so much encouragement in such a short amount of time. I realized that now matter if I have a crown on my head or I'm just being Paige Meyer I can learn so much and share my talents with other people. I want to thank you all so much for coming to the show! It ment so much to have all of you there cheering me on!

1st Platform Appearence! Trunk or Treat :)

Recently I had the oppurtunity to make an appearence at an annual event that is put on by my church each year entitled Trunk or Treat. Trunk or Treat provides a safe place for trick or treaters of all ages to come and recieve all of the Halloween candy they need. Every year I have gotten to hand out candy to kids from the back of my trunk. This year was very exciting because I got to hand out candy with a special message. My platform "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke," is a movement I have created to prevent teen smoking. I have watched both of my grandfathers suffer from lung cancer and emphysema because of the decision they made to start using tobacco in their teen years. As I handed out candy to the kids they recieved the special message of smoking prevention. I was able to spread the message to 350 kids! I decorated my trunk with tips as well and want to share what each child learned.

Pageant Weekend

Over the weekend of October 24th, and 25th I attended Miss Twin Cities/Miss Capital City, and the Miss Red River Valley and Miss West Fargo Pageants. I had an absolute blast getting a chance to meet a lot of talented girls! A big congratulations to Miss Twin Cities Kathryn Knuittla,Miss Capital City Kaylah Dockter, and Miss West Fargo Rosemary Sauvageau. I also had a fabulous time chatting with my sister queen Bethany! We love getting to chat and meet area royalty together! :) During the pageant I had the oppurtunity to introduce myself as visiting royalty. As I was onstage along with other royalty we were asked the question, "If you could be an animal, what would you be?" After I introduced who I was, I responded, "I live on a dairy farm and am surronded by animals everyday, so I don't see the need to be one." I love telling this story. It's always great to get a chance to be on stage and show a bit of your personality! Congrats once again to new queens throught the state of Minnesota and North Dakota.

Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen!

Welcome!

September 12th 2009 was a very exciting time for me as I was crowned the 1st Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen! Holding the title of Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen has been an absoulute blessing and I'm very excited to have this blog to share my experiences throught my year. Since winning my title I have kept myself very busy. Three days after I was crowned MRRVOT I was cast as Cinderella in my hometown's community musical. Between being MRRVOT, Cinderella, a dancer, and a student my schedule always seems to be busy! As far as my pageant life goes I have attended several pageants throught the state of Minnesota and North Dakota, and have participated in events to promote my platform which is entitled "It's No Joke, Say NO to Smoke." This coming June I will compete for the title of Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen. I want to thank you all for your never ending support and encouragement.
